Homemade Liquid Hand Soap

Yesterday Beauty and I attempted our first batch of homemade liquid hand soap.  I am going to make a few tweaks the next go around, but I like this for my first time.  I found this recipe at Farmer’s Nest.
Ingredients:  bar of soap (I used Ivory cause I have a stockpile from     couponing, next time though I will use a larger bar of something more “substantial”)
Liquid Glycerin (found with the band aids)
                  Water
Make it:
101_0053 Grate the soap with cheese grater

101_0056 Add soap shavings and 2 TBSP glycerin to 1 gallon of water and heat on Med-Hi until melted
Remove from heat and let sit for 12 hours.
101_0057This is what it looks like after about 3 hours
101_0061 After 12 hours this is what it looked like.  It was almost a Jell-O consistency, so I took the hand mixer to it and added a little water until it was a smoother consistency.
101_0062
101_0063 It almost filled up this recycled milk jug ( I had a funnel malfunction or it would have filled it up)
As I said before, next time I will try a different soap.  I think the Ivory was too small, and resulted in a slimier soap.
Tonight I whipped up a batch of home made laundry detergent.  It has to sit for 24 hours, so I’ll let you know on Sunday how that turned out!

I'm linking this up at Raising Mighty Arrows! Go join in the fun and learn other useful homemaking and homeschooling tips!
