"The War on Moms"?

I'm sure you're all aware by now of Ms. Rosen's statement regarding Ms. Romney's (Mitt's wife) opinion of the economy.  If not, I will copy the quote provided by Glenn Beck.com:

“With respect to economic issues, I think, actually, Mitt Romney is right, that ultimately women care more about the economic well-being of their family, and the like. But he doesn’t connect on that issue either. What you have is Mitt Romney running around the country saying my wife tells me what women really care about are economic issues. When I listen to my wife that’s what I’m hearing. Guess what, his wife has actually never worked a day in her life. She’s never really dealt with the economic issues that — a majority of issues that women are facing in terms of how do we feed our kids, how do we send to them to school, and how we worry about their future.”

The highlighted segment suggests that because Ann was apparently a stay-at-home-mom, she never worked a day in her life.  You SAHMs out there-did you know that the training, nurturing, feeding, dressing, washing, doctoring/nursing and educating of your children as well as the house cleaning, bill paying, grocery buying, clothes washing, errand running, kid-chauffeuring and food cooking that you do every day only to turn around and do all it again tomorrow is NOT work?  Well, if it isn't, then I must say this seven-year vacation I've been on is the WORST vacation EVER.  I'll have to actually go to "work" just to relax!

This isn't my only beef with Ms. Rosen. To suggest Ms. Romney has "never really dealt with the economic issues that-a majority of issues that women are facing in terms of how do we feed our kids, how do we send them to school, and how we worry about their future" is absurd.  Every loving mother is concerned about these very things.  Some think holding a public job is the solution, others stay-at-home to manage the family. We all care.  So what if Ms. Romney comes from affluence and never lived from paycheck to paycheck.  This doesn't mean she is incapable of comprehending that many of us do. This doesn't mean she is less concerned about her own children's future, or that of her great-grandchildren.

Furthermore, the suggestion that SAHM's are unqualified to voice an opinion on the economy is also ridiculous.  I guarantee you I have a much better understanding and even concern about it than my working husband does.  I buy the groceries.  He has no idea how difficult it is to feed a family of four while pinching pennies. He takes for granted that I do it, trusts that I am going to spend the family money wisely and fixes himself a sandwich in between meals.  Meanwhile, it is I who is stuffing money aside to save up for Christmas and Buck's college fund.  It is I who is aware of the fact that I must make my wardrobe last a little bit longer so he can have enough gas money to last him the next two weeks.  I plan the budget and then have to scrounge when he blows it.  All this okay.  He has strengths that I don't. He goes every day to a job he doesn't like so I can buy what we need.

Perhaps Ms. Rosen didn't mean to imply that SAHMs have no valid voice on this topic. Perhaps she meant that Ms. Romney and others from wealthy households have no valid voice because they've never had to worry about money.  This, then, suggests that her wealth and choice to stay home puts her in a kind of bubble that makes her unaware of the "working man's" plight.  Well, then, I dare say that most politicians, including our President himself, is in that same bubble.  Everyone knows it takes money to get far in politics.  Sure, some may have come from humble beginnings but most do not.  Thus, what right do ANY of them have to make decisions for us or to presume they know how to meet our concerns?

In all, Ms. Rosen's statement is a poor and pitiful attempt to harm Mr. Romney's campaign and nothing more.

Now that she has received the national backlash of all us angry SAHMs and home schoolers, I have just one question for Ms. Rosen: "Would you like a glass of water to wash down that foot?".
