Four Favorite Foods for Pampering My Skin

There is no argument that the following foods are good for you when you put them inside your body, but did you know they can be beneficial on the outside as well?

It has become a recent hobby of mine to create my own home made facials and pampering treatments.  Below are a list of my favorite ingredients and how they can benefit your skin, particularly when used as facial treatments.

Strawberries:  Strawberries, when processed in a blender, offer  fantastic exfoliation when included in a facial.  They also include antioxidents which repair skin damage and offer anti-aging benefits. The salycylic acid in strawberries slough away dead cells, leaving you with smaller pores and brighter, fresher skin. They may also be beneficial in eliminating skin discolorations due to sun damage or age spots. click here for source

Oats:  Oats too are a wonderful exfoliator.  They are also gentle enough for all skin types and sensitivities.  Whip you up some oatmeal and use it as a facial to cleanse, moisturize and soothe your skin.  It is also wonderful to add some to your bath and soak. Grind them up in a blender or food processor.

Honey: This is my favorite.  Honey contains antioxidants and alpha hydroxy acids to aid in anti-aging.  It also has antibacterial qualities which aid in the healing of scars or small wounds (think scratch or bug bite).  It also can help moisturize. source

Milk:  We've probably all heard how Cleopatra would indulge in a milk bath.  But why? What are the benefits of using milk externally?  For starters, the lactic acid in milk is a gentle exfoliator. It also helps hydrate and soothe irritated skin and relieves redness.  Use it in a mask, pour it directly in the tub or add some to a clean cotton ball and clean your face with it.  I've tried it and no I do not end up smelling like sour milk.  Make sure you rinse well with water.

You can apply any of these to your face alone or combine them and whip up a mask for extra benefits and pampering.  My favorite is strawberries and honey.  Leave on skin for 10-15 minutes; I usually apply before getting in the tub and rinse with warm water.

*Obviously, if you are allergic to any of these foods, I do not recommend you applying them to your face.  In fact, don't!

I hope you have as much fun experimenting with your own home made facials as I am! Let me know if you would add anything to this list, or what you find works best.

  7. I didn't know strawberries can be used that way in making a facial kit. They are expensive fruits here so I don't buy them that often for the kids to eat.
